Justin -- I sent your column on the changes to other economists, and it will make its way (or already has) to the Statistics Committee of the National Association for Business Economics (NABE). This will be very broadly known within the business economist community very soon. Lots of Fed economists at NABE as well.
Would you be willing to create a list of trusted sources that you highly regard for their veracity?
I think that would help us not only discern the wheat from the chaff, but also allow us to initiate our own research into the morass that is our economic and political world presently.
I also want to say your comments and insights are extremely helpful to me and that's why I subscribed to Platypus Economics.
And your accent and use of Aussie slang make things that much more memorable.
I've heard Justin make some of these points before about stats, info, & discernment. This session is a keeper because Augusta's questions have focused so much into this video. Justin mentions feelings at first (could say 'vibes') which is often how I react as a non-sophisticated J Q Public... then he explains to whom/why/when/what I would do better to pay attention. I put him in the select group of people who, when they tell something in seriousness, my default reaction is to believe him. Calm, reasoned (& conveys his reasoning), and direct in language (occasional cussing & snark for appropriate emphasis, never punching down). Much apricate (yeah I mistyped 'appreciate' and spellcheck offered me this new word so I looked it up and it's poetically apt. Also: appreciate)
Your right people have trust the numbers that come from the departments that are qualified to do that work. The prez and his clowns are not. So don’t believe them. Ever.
Lutnick just sawed the leg off a three-legged stool. How can this country stand without scientific economic information needed for sound economic policy? It's why someone with integrity like Jay Powell should be in charge of getting our economic policy back on track. President Powell sounds good to me because that is how important fiscal responsibility is to make this democracy work. So much of what we want our government to do is possible only if we have a sound economy. Scientific integrity from lawyers instead of scientists? Keep the lawyers in our legislature where they can continue to do what they do so well...nothing.
