I’m in HR and absolutely could have told them that the numbers in the past months were inflated and the future is bleak. No one is really hiring and a lot of my colleagues are only doing RIFs.
A major problem for the US is that too much of our reality is in Donald Trump's mind. When he says that everything is just fine - "hot" actually - than the government will not do anything to address a slumping job market, middling job prospects for young people and issues like the destructiveness of ICE crackdowns and the attitudes of the people who are dictating the place of AI in our future. He doesn't believe or doesn't care and so that is official government policy. He will not go down as "another Herbert Hoover" because Hoover cared a lot - his failing was not truly understanding the problem.
I have a young person who’s struggled to find a job for the past 12 months and he has some college, so I’ve known the bottom was falling out for some time now…
