Dear Professor Wolfers.. kudos on a rational dissection of the latest version of voodoo economics. When Trump was running for president in 2016 he promised the coal miners he was going to bring back coal. Frankly, the $5K bribe for a vote demonstrates the Orange Man’s cruelty and lack of empathy for those who have lost hope and do not know any better.
I don't know whether to admire you or to worry about your sanity. I know, I know, somehow you've got to take our Dear Leader seriously ---but---seriously? And you did a fine job of cogently illustrating all parts of the bribery proposal---but it's DONALD TRUMP'S LATEST FAKE BRIBERY PROPOSAL. (I think I might be channeling Lucy, here, sorry.) My only other thought is that at least we know our current "net worth" to Trump. Natalie Harp, his human printer and comfort woman, gets $45,000 for a "holiday bonus" (and she already "earns" a salary of $150,000 from us for her services) and we get a paltry $5,000. Perhaps most insulting---SHE actually got her money, we'll never see ours. Cheers!
I saw a headline yesterday from the Financial Times that asked, "How would Donald Trump’s $5,000 voting payout work?".
Other than the short answer of "It wouldn't" leading to a very truncated article, I'm pretty sure that publication has some ulterior motives if they come up with that question after that presidential announcement.
Or they want the clicks, but you have to pay to read this story, which is laughable on its face, and illegal as votes cannot be bought in the US:
