Justin, I’ve been following you since I saw you on then MSNBC & wanted to learn more about economics the way you tell it. Thank you for your clear explanations & being an Aussie I love your humour. Onya mate!
Thanks, Dr. J. for explaining the economics of the recent media evolution.
My concern is that purveyors of Trumpism have a leg up.
Too many Americans actually believe we live in a positive glow of the United States being the greatest country in world history with God on our side.
They base such greatness of being whites, governed by white men, seeing those outside that cadre as vampire interlopers, sucking the lifeblood from the greatness.
Therefore this gives them the belief that they alone own the mantle of being an "American."
Confirming their prejudice is easy, simply turn to right-wing media spewing factless "truths."
No need to think independently when hundreds of media sources are available to not only support their ideology, but also to demonize the fact-cherishers.
Sadly, fact-based media are at a disadvantage, since humans are uncomfortable with having their beliefs challenged with a minority considering the validity of such challenges.
Congrats! I often think about that other world where the election results were different. I believe I wouldn't be here on Substack, would have gone on living with NPR as my trusted news source, would quite possible have never heard of you (sorry, I'm just really old and out of touch). Nor heard of many of the other independent sources of information here. Would that have been so bad? You know, my answer to that is yes. Very probably. We needed a real kick in the pants ---just hoping we can survive it.
Your midlife crisis lets me have morning coffee with you. It's great!

Dude, how cool is that?! Congrats!
Well, you are definitely fun, but you also make economics almost palatable!
As the Aussie’s say, “Well done, mate.” I know I’m enjoying my time with you (& Larrikin)!
I skip the coffee during these turbulent times and have shifted to a few triple espressos. Great recognition for our most relevant economist today.
